The Nelson Grove Cemetery is where Malinda Hartley Ashley, her husband and son (with wife) are buried. Their son has a stone and the two markers nearby say T. S. A. and M. A. These would be Thomas and Malinda. Location: This cemetery is located near the Woodbine community in eastern Cooke County. From Hwy 82, south on FM 678, about 1.2 miles, it's located on the east side of the road. Nelson Grove is well maintained. Mollie E. Nelson, who died in 1875, is believed to be the first person buried here. This survey was updated in April 2008.

Henderson (Henry) Huffman and Julia Ann Hartley Gallery

Sarah Huffman and Robert E. Surginer, Sarah is daughter of Henderson and Julia Ann Hartley Huffman. Robert died 1963 in Carthage, TX at the age of 84. He was a farmer.

Frances Surginer Edge, Frances is daughter of Robert and Sarah Huffman Surginer, if she is 20 or so then picture about 1912-13.

Could young man here be Gilliam Surginer, (1893-1964) son of Sarah and Robert below? I have added the mustache. If the young man is Gilliam at age 20 or so then that picture would be about 1912-15, which coincidentally would be same years of his sister Frances’ picture above. Note similar backgrounds in both pictures. Another possibility is the young man is Robert’s brother; is there one? Donna Taylor confirmed that Robert had blue eyes as suggested in the picture, Therefore the young man can’t be Robert at an earlier age. This picture is a “real postcard” which dates between 1904-18 fitting well with Gilliam.

Maybe Gilliam Surginer, moustache added.

I believe Sarah is pregnant with Gilliam, which would account for the tummy in a woman that young. That would date the photo about 1892-93. (Initially I thought Sarah’s dress was from much earlier period, however the hat as pointed out by Frances Cronin is more 1890s which is right for Sarah and Robert.

Sarah Huffman?, age 3 or 4, making picture 1878, shoes seem later, though I have seen 1870 photos of girls in similar shoes. Card printed between 1910-24. Back says Sarah in awkward writing.

Maybe Amanda Huffman, age 3 or 4, making pictures taken 1889. Back says “From little sister to ant Sarh, in awkward writing. Amanda was sister to Sarah Huffman. I think the postcard was sent to Sarah sometime in the 1930 when Amanda was around 40 years of age. Postcard printed between 1918-30. Hand writing on the back of this and the next photo are by the same person.

Amanda J. Huffman Green. Daughter of Henderson and Julia Ann Hartley Huffman. Card says "To my dear sis Sarh surginer" Amanda was a sister of Sarah Huffman Surginer. Amanda died in 1953 making her 56 years old at her death. This must be near the time of her death.
